Location of Sighting: Ionian Sea

Description: This event happened in the middle of the Ionian Sea aboard my sailboat. I am telling you this because of the story about the blinding light above a ship on your blog. My husband and I were sailing from France to Greece in the summer of 1994. I don’t have the log book handy, but I believe this happened in June. I was on a four hour watch during the early morning hours and was sitting in the cockpit alone when I noticed bright light. I looked up and my first thought was why is there a rescue helicopter with a huge spotlight right above our boat? Instantly I realized that there was no noise or helicopter visible, only a blinding huge round light very close and directly over the boat. The next day the log book mentioned that I saw a shooting star? I have no recollection of how or when the light disappeared. I am also baffled as to why I believed that I saw a shooting star. I have only told a few people because the story is strange.
