Location of Sighting: Syracuse, New York

Time of Sighting: 6:15 AM EDT
Description: July 16, 2015, I was staying at my sister’s house in Syracuse, NY. About 6:15 AM I was drinking a cup of coffee while looking out her window. The sky was clear and with puffy clouds. In the direction of West over her house I saw a slit in the sky that was emitting a bright light (similar to a halogen light). The slit in the sky was about seven inches from where I was standing (measured with my hand), so I estimated from afar that it must be at least 15 to 20 feet if I was up close to it. I watched this light for about ten minutes. It never moved, but at times it seemed to be pulsing. I could not see anything else in the sky that could cause this. If her house was near a body of water I would have assumed it was a reflection. After I watched this for about ten minutes it seemed to have closed.
I searched the internet for an incident similar to mine. This is the first article that I have read that was close. What is this?
